Carla Wright
Carla Wright is an artist working in sculpture, functional ceramics and participatory projects. Her work explores the built environment - social housing, community centres and play structures in New Towns and cities - to vernacular dwellings, informal settlements, squats and self-build projects. Drawn to the understated places where people gather, particularly where teenagers and children meet, recent work includes a series of ceramic sculptures exploring playgrounds in working class neighbourhoods, including the New Town where she grew up. Carla currently runs the ceramics studio project - Common Clay in Hastings. Set up in 2018 to provide a shared, open and experimental making space for artists working with clay, through monthly memberships and artist residencies, along with a programme of community workshops, classes, social events and exhibitions.
