Clare Chinnery

Clare Chinnery is a British abstract painter from Northern England, she has recently returned to painting after a 20 year hiatus. Since graduating from Liverpool John Moores University in 1997 Clare’s work has been collected and exhibited internationally, including solo shows with The New Academy and Curwen Galleries in London and the Domino Gallery in Liverpool. With an interest in 17th-century Vanitas paintings Clare has been studying the symbolism and chiaroscuro techniques of the old masters, interpreting and translating historical images and creating her own still lives using expressive colour and spontaneous mark making. Most recent works are inspired specifically by Memento mori style still lives, using their complex and overladen sumptuous compositions to explore the transience of life and certainty of death,
