Hanna Isseyegh is an intersectional feminist, artist, woman and parent. “My practice explores themes of womanhood, motherhood and gender roles. I was born to a refugee and educated and raised in (a small village in) England. Ireland is now the home that I have set up for me and my children. I am especially interested in the relationship between socially constructed ideals and the lived experience. I use art to process emotions, struggles and my life history. A key part of my process is engaging in conversations with mothers on the maternal experience. Much like an anthropologist, I collect field data; stories, words, phrases, anecdotes or issues. Part of my practice is focused on the language that we use when describing maternal experiences. I am keen to explore the transformative nature of motherhood, with all its complexities. I play with the idea of tension, exploring both conflict and humour within my art.”
