Imogen Alabaster
Contemporary female figurative artist living and creating in Edinburgh, Scotland. She studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, and now has a studio in WASPS West Park Place. One of her paintings is on permanent display at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, as well as several in private collections. Imogen specialises in rich oil paintings and drawings that stretch between abstract expressionism and realism, being particularly focussed on portraits exploring maternal identity, her first pregnancy and her new self that was born along with her son in June 2021. During her pregnancy she documented her changing body as new life grew within. ‘Seeing and feeling my body grow was fascinating, the most peaceful and whole I have felt in my life.’ Since the birth she has gradually found time and inspiration again, creating a series of self-portraits capturing intimate moments of her and her baby in the bath, breast feeding. Two naked, natural bodies, sharing the warmth of the water.
