Jennifer Long
Jennifer Long is a Canadian artist, curator, and arts administrator based in Tkaronto (Toronto). Through a Feminist lens, she works with constructed narratives that are inspired by the quiet moments in women’s lives where seemingly nothing (and everything) occurs. She is especially interested in the complex emotions that underlie these mundane points in time. Themes of vulnerability, growth, community, and motherhood are explored within her practice as she examines daily life and her rituals within it.
Long’s artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally at galleries including and Centre Culturel Calouste Gulbenkian (FR), Städtische Gallery (DE), Harbourfront Centre (CA), and online at the Museum of Motherhood (US). In March 2023, her recent work will be part of the 'Tether' exhibit at Thames Art Gallery (CA). Her practice has been included in numerous publications, such as Mothers, Mothering, and Covid-19: Dispatches from a Pandemic (Demeter Press, 2021), BlackFlash Magazine (2021) Mothers’ Day (Artist Residency In Motherhood, 2020), Birth and its Meanings (Demeter Press, 2015), and Au feminine, Women Photographing Women (Centre Culturel Calouste Gulbenkia, 2009). In support of her artwork, Long has received grants from the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council and The Canada Council for The Arts. Long is a founding member and administrator of the Feminist Photography Network, a nexus for research on the relationship between Feminism and lens-based media.
