Kate Cameron Reid

My work is an autobiographical, self-explorative practice recreating fragments of a narrative in each piece. Often utilising childhood and personal belongings as a metaphor, I aim to draw the viewer into my work through nostalgia and the intimacy of the story being told. Each work is a fragment of time, depicting memories, emotions and life events, making reference to experiences of widowhood, motherhood, and community. Emotionally charged themes of state of mind, loss, grief, trauma, fragility and innocence are a continuous conversation, raising questions in the storytelling of each piece. These frank and universally identifiable conversations are at the forefront of my creative practice, with the fundamental intention for public engagement and awareness, human connection and community.
