The piece, Gran’s Lipstick, is one of a series of photographic artefacts from a reenactment of a classic childhood memory… getting into Gran’s handbag during nap time and using her lipstick to paint. During the performance, I had 25 polaroid photos taken to document the action of painting my body with red lipstick. These polaroids remain as artefacts and art pieces. Through digital scans and prints, the polaroids have been treated and modified to continue the expression of the original piece. Gran’s Lipstick takes on many reads as reenacted as a woman, contemplating innocence, violence, and all of the pressure on our bodies.
