Tinsel Edwards
I live and work in Glasgow. I received my Fine Art BA from Goldsmiths College, London in 2001. My paintings are informed by my life as a mother, a woman and an artist, I aim to celebrate the everyday, and the joy, freedom and empowerment in creativity. I have exhibited across the UK and in Europe, selected solo and group shows include: Jealous Gallery and Moniker Art Fair (London), Michaela Stock Gallery (Vienna, Austria), Resort Studios (Margate), Banksy’s Dismaland, (Weston-Super-Mare), Arsenal Gallery (Poznan, Poland), Stella Dore at Sebastian Guiness Gallery (Dublin, Ireland), Artport (Berlin, Germany). My work is held in private collections internationally. In addition to painting, I was in The Fairies Band between 2000-2007 – gigging, touring and releasing records. I collaborated with friend Twinkle Troughton to create street based performance artworks, I’ve curated many exhibitions and co-founded A-side B-side Gallery and Studios in Hackney. I wrote a book called ‘Priced Out’ which documented a body of work I made in response to the housing crisis in London. These varied activities undoubtedly inform my work as a painter.
