Maternal

Digital Drawing, 29 x 21 cm

£120

When I drew this, I wasn't quite sure what motherhood meant to me. On one hand, I felt like an empowered goddess that created a human. On the other, I felt so delicate and raw. While I was up through the sometimes really long nights, I was able to connect to the moon and cyclical nature of my life and motherhood. Just like the moon, I both lurked in darkness and shined in full bloom. A year later, on occasions, I have to remind myself that this experience is full of small and large cycles. Things will ebb and flow. I will get to sleep at some point.
